Legend & Origin
Wenchang Dijun is the celestial star-lord who governs 'literary fortune' — everything to do with learning and examinations falls under his charge. Folklore tells a story with real flavor. A scholar had failed the exams so many times that he was ready to give up. One night he dreamed of Wenchang Dijun, who told him: 'You're not short on intelligence — you're short on effort. Go back and read the material one more time.' The scholar woke, threw himself into study, and in the end topped the list.
The point isn't 'pray and you'll pass.' It's that Wenchang helps those who are already putting in the work. He's no wish-granting machine; he's more like a strict but fair teacher. Read what you're supposed to read, and he'll look after your luck on the day — but if you spent the run-up gaming instead of studying, no amount of incense will save you, because Wenchang can see. Of all the gods, he's the one most like a teacher.
