Taipei Wenchang Temple

Taipei Wenchang Temple was founded during the Guangxu reign of the Qing dynasty (around the 1870s), at first a place where scholars and literati of the Dalongdong area worshipped Wenchang Dijun; together with Baoan Temple and the Confucius Temple, it formed the cultural and religious core of Dalongdong. Under Japanese rule it was briefly relocated for urban planning, then later moved back to its present site. It has been renovated many times, and though modest in scale its architecture is refined and elegant. Set in central Taipei with easy access, and buoyed by years of a reputation for answered prayers, it gradually became a must-visit Wenchang temple for students from across Taiwan. On the eve of major exams the temple fills with candidates and parents praying for success, and that wall papered with admission tickets, along with the temple's 'wisdom brush,' has become a one-of-a-kind cultural sight.
